TUX Takes January Off

New Editor in Chief Kevin Shockey joins the team, introducing his first issue February 1.

by TUX Staff

'Tis the season and all, and like many of us this time of year, the TUX team is taking a little time off. We won't be publishing a January 2006 issue, but we'll be back and rejuvenated in time to roll out the February 2006 issue and monthly issues throughout the coming year.

With the February issue comes a new editorial steward. Kevin Shockey takes over TUX during a period of dynamic growth, with readership now close to 80,000 people. For those of you wondering what happened to fearless leader Nicholas Petreley, you now can find him over at TUX's sister publication, Linux Journal, where he has taken on the role of editor in chief. Nick's first issue of Linux Journal will be on newsstands in late January--make sure to pick up a copy!

Finally, the TUX team sincerely wants to thank each and every one of you for supporting our digital magazine venture. We wish you a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing you again in February!

I miss my monthly fix!

I have really enjoyed TUX Magazine and have become addicted to receiving it on a monthly schedule. I know you deserve a break so enjoy some time off. Know that many are waiting anxiously for the next issue.

Thanks for all your work!

Gaming with Wine

I'd like to recommend another game for playing through wine: Oni. I bought it cheap and with wine 0.9.3, everything works perfectly, except the sound. I got no sound, but maybe some genious could find&fix that? ;)

It's a lovely game a bit in the style of Deus Ex, with an Anime style.

Hey, I got sound working... kind a choppy though

The Wine thingy recommended me to set Audio to 'Emulation'. So I did. And ta-da, sound works! Only it's kind of choppy, as if the sound can't really keep up with the game or, at least, it's seriously out of sync...

Give a fair shake to GNOME

Welcome to Kevin! I hope that as you get settled in as editor for TUX that you give a fair shake to GNOME. I've been a TUX subscriber since issue #2, and it's always bothered me that GNOME gets poo-pooed in favor of KDE. It's not that there are more articles about KDE - that's fine. It's the number of articles that seem to bash GNOME.

This shouldn't be a religious "war" between KDE & GNOME. That will get us nowhere.

Agreed

I dropped my Tux subscription because I was tired of the constant Gnome-bashing. I'll try a new subsciption for a while to give Kevin a chance, but if he continues his predecessor's anti-Gnome slant, I'll drop it again in short order.

I agree 100%. And it would

I agree 100%. And it would be nice if the editor had a more professional attitude about it than "well I hate GNOME so **** you".
